It’s understandable
that travelers have questions regarding medical concerns when considering
a trip abroad. Our guests ask us about the subjects below so often,
that we decided to create a page on this site specifically to address
those very issues. And while we have experience visiting and living
in Costa Rica, the best advice when it comes to preventative medicine
is always best derived from and confirmed by your physician.
Vaccinations
Regardless of whether you’re traveling to Central America or the
Central United States, it a good idea to be caught up with your vaccinations.
Whether or not to choose to get additional vaccinations for Hepatitis
A or B, or Yellow Fever is a decision that should be made considering
your medical history, the amount of time you have before departure,
and your doctor’s opinion.

Creepy
Crawlies
Costa
Rica is home to all kinds of colorful bugs of all shapes and sizes.
Even the bugs that we think we are familiar with, like grasshoppers
and butterflies are more exotic and fantastically colored in the rainforest.
Yes, there are mosquitos and yes, there are bugs here that might be
somewhat of a nuisance – like noseeums that like to come out at
dusk along the coast. But you aren’t in any danger and shouldn’t
experience any significant discomfort if you dress properly and take
the necessary precautions against insect bites.
Medication
It can be a good idea to bring a small first aid kit for personal use.
Include any over-the-counter drugs and prescription drugs you use regularly.
Make every effort to bring the medication in the original container,
and bring enough for the entire trip. Bring copies of your prescriptions
as well.
